7:15 a.m. Conversations

Have you ever been in a situation where you found yourself with an opportunity that you never expected at the most unexpected moment?

Sure, we all have at some point or another. Today was one of those days for me. No, I didn't come into a windfall of cash but, hey if I did I surely wouldn't turn it away! I did however find myself in a conversation with someone that was really unexpected.

My day started off with waking about 3am, why I don't know but that is how it started. I did the normal turning over, watching tv, checking my phone for messages etc. Eventually, I was up and moving by 6:15am because I had an early appointment at the doctor. Driving over to the office I was thankful that the traffic was not heavy, because we know that during rush hour...well, there is no rushing. It's sit and wait...gas...brake...gas...brake etc. The fun part of living in a city that is packed with all kinds of things.

Anyway, I arrived and waited less than 5 minutes before I found myself in the room waiting for the doctor to stop by. To my surprise the door opened and it was my actual doctor. (Whom I absolutely love by the way) though I really hadn't expected to get to see her, I thought I was just seeing her assistant for this quick in and out appointment. We chatted for a few minutes about my reason for the visit and it came up that I was in early because I had to go out of town and wanted to see her before I left. Anyway we got to talking and we started talking about my books and the reason I really write them. Let's all agree, writing books isn't for the money. It's not for fame, it's really just a way to bring goodness to others and give an escape from the day to day things we have going on. So we got to talking about my children's book, Candy and the Silly Upside Down Bumble Bee.

Now, I could talk for a while when it comes to my books and the purpose behind them and if you happen to know me personally, you know I have the gift of gab and I'm definitely not afraid to use it!

The discussion came about that I was going to have an opportunity to present some books to a church up in Alabama. Before I knew it she was asking if my books were spiritual! How amazing that at a very early appointment, an unexpected talk about Jesus would be on my agenda for the day. (Yes, my books have some spiritual guidance in them that is age appropriate for the little ones. I never push anything on anyone---ever. But, if it comes up sure, I'll tell you about my story that started back in 1995 with $1.56 to my name, no food for my kids, not sure where I would go from there but...sitting in the pew at church, God knew. He came to my rescue and has done so every day since.

We had a really great conversation about young children and opening their world to prayer and books. I was reminded of the importance of individual beliefs and purpose driven reasons for my writing.

In the days that I second guess myself, wonder if I am making any difference, or if I should even be writing books. (yes, I do this because, well---aren't we all our own worst critics?) today was a day of unexpected goodness and further confirmation that someone, somewhere out there needs books. Maybe a new mother, maybe a grandma, maybe a teen, maybe a child. Maybe even you!

An unexpected conversation, with a beautiful soul, at the oddest time and location made my day.

Until next time, friends, keep reaching for your positive and uplifting dreams, take the action to follow your heart, otherwise, they will just always be dreams and never a reality. --Kristi
